Shopping and Technology

This article in the NY Times discusses a new technology that allows you to try on clothes in a kind of virtual mirror and lets your friends see you and comment live from anywhere with a computer. It's sort of a live version of my virtual model combined with myspace and could be a way for brands to differentiate themselves in the highly competitive fashion industry.

Yes, this technology has been around for awhile and is getting hotter. In 2004, my company had a technology showcase that featured Virtual-Mirrors Ltd. (UK) which did a demo on a version of this technology (see article link below). This might be an opportunity for some tech savy firms to enable consumers to purchase custom-made clothing at cheaper prices and leverage relationships with large clothing apparel brands and get involved in co-marketing initatives.
